RIGIDFORM Siding Technology

Helps Protect the Investment of Your Home

Wild, Wicked Weather
Let's face it, weather happens everywhere. Virtually every part of the United States experiences thunderstorms. Some areas are also hit with blizzards, small tornadoes, or localized wind storms. All of these weather occurrences can easily pack winds over 80 miles-per-hour (mph).

The problem is that many competitive products, even premium thickness panels, do not have the strength in the nail hem area that CertainTeed RigidForm sidings offer the added security of a proprietary locking system. Without these design innovations, blow off and other weather-related problems are a very real possibility.

Wind Load Test
When subjected to high sustained winds and strong wind gusts, tests have shown that the force of the wind can actually begin pulling the siding away from the wall. This force can cause the nails to pull from the wall or rip the panel at the nail hem. RigidForm sidings have been tested in a specially designed chamber which replicates wind pressures, calculated as .pounds per-square-feet (psf)." These calculations are then translated into wind speeds. CertainTeed research has proven that RigidForm's double nail hem design enables the siding to withstand negative wind load pressures of 65-145 pst which equates to wind speeds of 135-235 mph, depending on the product and method of installation.

Torture Test
You don't have to be an engineer to test the strength of RigidForm. Just take a metal car or house key and insert it into the nail slot of a competitor's siding panel without the rolled-over nail hem design. When you firmly pull and wiggle the key in the nail slot to simulate the pressures and forces of a strong wind, you can expect the nail slot to distort or rip. Now perform the same test on a RigidForm siding panel. You can expect the double-thick nail hem design of the RigidForm panel to give added strength, which helps the nail slotmsist deforming and tearing.
